School Profile

The RCS Alternative School Program

Daniel McKee is an alternative high school in which students are placed for varying periods of time. Students are assigned to Daniel McKee based on recommendation of their home school principal or the superintendent.

The school offers students an alternative to expulsion and an opportunity to participate in a behavior management program with conflict resolution activities as they continue to receive academic credit.

School Safety

A School Resource Officer – a specially trained law enforcement officer – is assigned to the school full time. The officer’s duties include crime prevention and intervention.

School History

Shiloh School served African-American students in Rutherford County until 1967 when the facility was renamed Daniel McKee School. From 1967 until the early 1990s, the school served special education students. When the special education students were instead sent to their zoned school for inclusion and special education services there, Daniel McKee was reinvented once again as the county’s first alternative school.
