Mrs. Ashley Meatte-Grimes was voted the 2017-18 Teacher of the Year for Daniel McKee Alternative School. Mrs. Grimes has been with Rutherford County for three and a half years, first as a SPED educational assistant at Smyrna Middle School before finding her home at Daniel McKee Alternative School in 2014.
A native of Rutherford County, Mrs. Grimes graduated from Riverdale High School in 2005, and obtained her bachelor's degree in psychology from MTSU in 2009. She finished her post-baccalaureate program to obtain her license in special education in 2012.
She has been married to her husband Jeremiah for eight and a half years, with whom she has two wonderful children, Kaylee and Jackson.
One of the things that gives her a great sense of accomplishment is seeing her students out in the community or back at their home schools being successful. Her heart is truly with at-risk teens, and she makes it a personal goal each day to learn something new and have a positive impact on her students and show them the vast opportunities available to them.
Congratulations to Mrs. Meatte-Grimes!
